She is assigned to cover Asia, reporting from various capitals in the region until she takes up residence in Beijing. Previously, Palmer was based in Moscow (2000-2003) and London (2003- 2021.) After the 9/11 attacks, Palmer was one of the first network correspondents to get into Afghanistan. She spent much of the next decade reporting on the conflicts there and in Iraq. She has also traveled frequently to Iran to report on politics, culture, and the evolution of its nuclear program. Palmer won a DuPont Award for her reporting on the Syrian civil war. Over seven years and on multiple trips, she traveled from one end of the country to the other to gain access to both the Syrian Arab Army and to rebel fighters.
