Gene has had quite an impressive career. He started his broadcasting career in 1983 as a sports writer and producer at WJCC-AM radio (now WDIS AM 1170) in Norfolk. He began television news in 1986, covering sports at WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Florida. In addition, Lavanchy was a sports anchor at WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island, and also the host of Boston Bruins telecasts for WSBK-TV.In 1993, he joined WHDH in Boston and became their sports director and sports anchor a year later. He also anchored WHDH’s Sunday late-night sports program “Sports Xtra” as time progressed, where he would interview and discuss current events with many local New England sports stars.
Lavanchy arrived at WFXT in August 2003, after leaving WHDH. He and co-host Kim Carrigan, who had also left WHDH, are leading one of the most popular morning news shows in Boston. Away from television, the journalist participates in community activities actively. For instance, he is a board member of the Friends of Walpole Community Athletic Complex.
