She moved to South Carolina after graduation, eager for an adventure, and found her first position at CBS station WBTW in the Florence/Myrtle Beach area. In her first two months as a weekend producer, she was thrust into many major stories, including the TWA 800 accident and Hurricanes Bertha and Fran. She then got a job as a “one-man band” reporter/photographer, where she shot and edited her own stories for daily newscasts.

Kelcey was employed at WWMT-Ch. 3 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, after WBTW, and was assigned to cover numerous major stories, including the 2000 Presidential Election doubt in West Palm Beach, Florida, and Timothy McVeigh’s execution. Kelcey began conducting more investigative reporting in Kalamazoo, where she won accolades for her work on the Sex Offender Registry. Later, she was promoted to weekday morning anchor.
Kelcey spent the majority of her career at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina. She began her career as a reporter before moving on to weekend newscasts and finally the weekday morning show.
