She completed both undergraduate and graduate degrees and received several scholarships and accolades including the RISE Sustainability Innovation Award, where her plan to reduce CO2 emissions at her University won first place. Lena was also named a Senior Named Scholar by the American Meteorological Society for her academic excellence and achievements and was selected to participate in a master class with Oprah to represent the College of Sciences during Oprah’s visit to UMASS Lowell in 2019.
She was on the Boston Marathon Weather Team for 3 years, has completed research at the National Weather Center, and after starting her career close to home in Massachusetts she is now bringing her talents down south to Texas. As a minority female, she is extremely passionate about STEM education, especially for underrepresented groups.
Lena was a TA in college, has taught College for Kids, completed science experiments on-air, and actively mentors the next generation of emerging scientists. Lena is vegan and loves to garden, run, hike, travel, and read. She is also extremely adventurous. And as the daughter of Polish, Italian and Colombian parents she is thrilled to be continuing her career in one of the most culturally diverse cities in the U.S. was born and raised in New England. Prior to becoming a Meteorologist, she worked in retail and hospitality management for nearly a decade.
