Right after graduating from Syracuse University, Wright began his sports broadcasting career as a production assistant and weekend host for the KCSP radio station, based in Kansas City, Missouri. Later he launched his own weekly program, What’s Wright with Nick Wright?
In 2016, Wright transitioned from sports radio to broadcast television when he began working for Fox Sports. During his early days at Fox, he was a regular contributor to FS1’s daily studio shows. He was a frequent guest host on The Herd. While regular host Colin Cowherd was on vacation, Wright and former wide receiver Cris Carter co-hosted an episode of The Herd in late December 2016. At the time, Fox Sports executive Jamie Horowitz used Carter and Wright’s co-hosting venture to assess the potential of them co-hosting a daily morning sports talk show on FS1. The early morning block was “a black hole for FS1” at the time according to Sporting News.
