Patrick has had quite an impressive career, he was about to sign with the University of North Carolina, but later he declined and made an announcement to play for Georgetown University under his coach John Thompson. In his debut game, he emerged as a star player. He used to wear a short-sleeved t-shirt which later became a trend. During the NCAA final in 1982 against the University of North Carolina, he proved his game and let everyone feel his presence and got highly appreciated for his game by everyone.
He also played for the New York Knicks, Seattle SuperSonics and Orlando Magic, and Seattle SuperSonics as a player. Later became the coach of teams like the Washington Wizards (assistant), Houston Rockets (assistant) and is currently the coach of Georgetown. He has a tremendous career both as a player and a coach.
In addition, he has been honored with several awards such as the Rookie of the Year (1986), All-NBA First Team (1990), for five consecutive years he won the All-NBA Second Team from 1988 to 1993, and then in 1997, he was honored with the NBA All-Defensive Second Team (1988, 1989, 1992).
