Dickert has had quite an impressive career, He is a certified National Weather Service/FAA weather observer and observes the weather at local airports. In May of 2005, he was the 1st weathercaster in Los Angeles to be awarded the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal by the AMS, which grants the CBM designation to broadcast meteorologists who meet established criteria for scientific competence and effective communication skills in their weather presentations. The seal is sought as a mark of distinction and a recognition of the achievement in the communication of scientific information.
He is also the secretary of the LA Chapter of the AMS, a member of the National Weather Association, and co-founder and board member of the California Weather Association. A new program, CBM, was launched in January 2005 as an upgrade to the Society’s Seal of Approval. The member of the National Weather Association earned their TV seal of approval in 2003.
Rick later published and marketed a Southern California Weather Calendar and Almanac which earned him an annual achievement award from the LA AMS. In addition, he started his on-air career as a meteorologist from KEYT, the ABC affiliate in Santa Barbara. At KTTV, he began working as an intern in 1990.
