Troy Aikman Career
Troy has had quite an impressive career, He played his first full season in 1985 where he led the University of Oklahoma to some notable wins against big teams like the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Kansas State Wildcats, and the Texas Longhorns. However, he broke his ankle while playing against the Miami Hurricanes on Oct 19, 1985. Troy joined the UCLA Bruins in 1986 where he would be more confident playing as a passing quarterback. He went on to win the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year award in his junior year.
He also won the 1988 Davey O’Brien Award as a senior. Moreover, he was a Consensus All-American, the UPI West Coast Player of the Year, the Washington DC Club QB of the Year, and a finalist for the 1988 AFCA “Coaches Choice” Player of the year award. Nonetheless, Aikman was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008. UCLA retired Troy Aikman’s #8 jersey on Nov 28, 2014, at halftime against Stanford.
Aikman attended Henryetta High School where he also played football. Furthermore, he earned All-State honors and won the 1983 Oklahoma high school state championship in Typing. Immediately after completing high school, he joined the University of Oklahoma in 1984 where he went on to play college football. The New York Mets offered Aikman a contract out of high school but he preferred to play American football to baseball.
